Double Diamond

Double Diamond (Loafers)

A slightly delayed, but really exciting announcement, for me anyway. The summer issue of Knotions went live at the beginning of May and I have a pattern in it! Woot! They are cabled argyle socks called Double Diamond, a nod to both the graphic pattern and a hint that it’ll require a bit more concentration than your average stockinette. Not to worry too much though. It requires a little concentration but the pattern is logical and it’s easy to spot if you make a mistake. I had fun making them and I definitely didn’t get bored!

I hadn’t actually planned on submitting the socks anywhere. They were a Christmas present for my mother and I actually finished them about five minutes before I read a post on the Knotions blog mentioning that they didn’t have any socks submitted for the summer issue. Of course, I also hadn’t written down the pattern as I went, so that meant I had to knit another pair. (Like I needed an excuse to knit a pair of these for myself.)

I should mention that these socks are on the slender side. They were designed for someone with really narrow feet and high arches. They do fit my wide flat feet just fine as the pattern is written (they had to, as I was the one trying them on as I went), but if I had designed them for me I’d use a short-row heel. That tends to fit my flat wide feet and go over my ankle without the extra tug. However, they don’t gap at the ankle, like the short-row heel tends to, so I guess the tug is a fair tradeoff. To make the pattern bigger or smaller, it’s easiest to change needle size. If making the socks bigger, I’d definitely get another ball of yarn.

Although these are in the summer issue, I think of these more as fall socks but I guess the time to start fall socks is in the summer if you want to wear them in time for the fall season. Socks are a great lightweight and portable project after all!

I hope you like them!
